The impact of GHG regulations on the offshore sector.

Reducing Emissions at Sea: Join our final webinar for 2024

With EU MRV set to take effect for the offshore sector on January 1, followed by the ETS in 2027 our experts will explore the impact of these new GHG regulations. Reporting requirements and anticipated cost implications will be key talking points, and our experts will share key insights that will help offshore players prepare for these challenges. ‍

With the offshore sector anticipating the implementation of the EU MRV on January 1, 2025, and with the EU ETS to follow in 2027, greenhouse gas (GHG) regulations are at the top of many people's agendas.

The EU MRV regulation comprises emissions collection and reporting to assess the environmental impact of offshore activities. While it has primarily affected the shipping sector (with ships of 5,000 GT and above), starting in January, it will include general cargo ships between 400 and 5,000 GT and offshore vessels of 400 GT and above. Given the size and diversity of the offshore sector, with around 11,000 vessels across more than 20 specialized types, reporting and compliance are complicated.

Our upcoming webinar will discuss the regulation in-depth, what the market can expect, and how best to fulfill reporting obligations and ensure compliance.

The regulatory challenge for the offshore fleet

Many questions surround the broader implications of these regulations, and our experts will examine what the market can expect and provide some context for how similar regulations are being discussed in other regions.

Using data from our Market Intelligence solution, Spinergie’s experts will guide you through the challenges ahead of the fleet impacted by these regulations.  One of the main challenges will be adapting how reporting for MRV/ETS will be completed accurately, as offshore operations differ from the voyage-based model already used in shipping emissions reporting. With this in mind, we will discuss reporting requirements and the anticipated cost implications.

Anticipating regulatory impact

MRV makes reporting more complex for the offshore sector. Therefore, digital solutions are required to compile and process the multiple data points required for accurate reporting. We will showcase how smart management solutions can assist ship owners in reporting and processing consumption data in compliance with MRV regulations.

Then, we will introduce our emission model to provide a better understanding of the ETS impacts on the offshore fleet. Our experts will demonstrate how it can help owners and developers gain insights into operational behavior and associated emissions.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How the EU’s MRV and ETS regulations will impact the offshore sector with contextual analysis of regulatory discussions in other regions.
  • How the diverse activities of the offshore sector make regulatory implementation more challenging.
  • How to monitor, report, verify, and optimize to stay on track with regulation compliance.
  • How Spinergie’s emission modeling helps measure the cost impact of the ETS.
